Got an email a couple of days ago from Adbrite :

Dear adBrite Publisher,

Over the last few weeks, adBrite and its management have been evaluating the go-forward plan for the business. Given market conditions and certain financial liabilities, in working with our lenders, we have decided to cease operations on Feb 1, 2013.

This is a difficult decision for all of us at adBrite. However, after much deliberation this seems to be the best course of action despite the impact it will have on all the employees, clients and partners who helped build this business. There will be a team in place as needed to assist with winding down.

Thank you for being part of the adBrite community.

The adBrite Team

At first, I thought it was just one of those spams but after reading the news from different sites and forums, this is verified as legit. They are indeed, shutting down operations completely. The question is – WILL THEY PAY PUBLISHERS BEFORE CLOSING DOWN?

For webmasters who are trying to earn a few bucks from ad networks, the road is getting narrower and narrower. Top adnetwork, Adsense has become more and more strict and they can just ban/terminate your account (for whatever reason they may have) and keep all the earning balance for themselves!

Adbrite used to be the best alternative way to earn some money but now that they are saying ‘sayonara’ to the world wide web, webmasters are left with less and less choices.

You might say, “oh there are a bunch of other ad networks out there!” Yes, there are, but your site might not qualify with their  requirements and rules.

I still have something like $400 on my Adbrite account, which I can just forget, I guess. 😦

Good luck to all the webmasters in finding your suitable ad network!

By the way, if you have any other ad network in mind, please feel free to post it here.
